Job Description

TITLE:                                    Welding Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:             High School Diploma required
Associate’s Degree in with demonstrate competencies in Welding. Qualifying fields are Welding or General Technology with Welding concentration
Work experience as a Welder required
Meets all requirements of the Career and Technology
Education Work-Based Certification in Welding
American Welding Society (AWS) Certification preferred
Bridge Welding Certification, and other welding certifications would be a plus
Ability to teach Blueprint reading, Metal fabrication, and Welding including Oxy-fuel, Arc, Tig, Mig, and Pulse Arc. preferred
Certified Welding Educator preferred
Documented successful teaching experience preferred
Proficiency in the use of technology preferred
REPORTS TO:                       Director, Abbeville County Career Center
JOB GOALS:                         To teach structural fabricating, repair and maintenance, MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, and cutting and plasma cutting to students in the classroom and lab by using a variety of teaching methods.

  1. Plans, organizes, and instructs welding courses during the day;
  2. Prepares course materials, objectives, standards, and goals in preparation of  industry certifications;
  3. Implements, documents, and maintains instructional standards, objectives and goals;
  4. Evaluates student attainment of learning outcomes by monitoring program goals;
  5. Organize program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in welding professions, and lectures on theory, techniques and terminology; prepares outline of instructional programs and studies and assembles materials to be presented;
  6. Instruct students in subject areas, i.e., use, maintenance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to the welding program;
  7. Maintains and reports accurate daily class attendance and grade records;
  8. Assists students in participating and acquiring work-based learning experiences;
  9. Recruits students to develop and maintain the instructional program;
  10. Maintains responsibility for students’ well-being at all times;
  11. Organizes, maintains and submits purchase order requests for supplies and equipment to be used with the curriculum as needed;
  12. Assures that all students are engaged in the learning process;
  13. Integrates knowledge of industry trends and professional training to continuously improve program quality;
  14. Counsels with administration, colleagues, students and parents on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required or when needed;
  15. Develops and implements a discipline and behavior plan for the classes;
  16. Maintains confidentiality concerning student records and data;
  17. Fulfills professional development responsibilities as outlined by the district;
  18. Maintains and meet with program Advisory Committee twice a year;
  19. Meets and maintains degree, certificate, and training criteria as prescribed by local, state, and federal guidelines;
  20. Assume other professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by appropriate personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the director per state and district policy/guidelines.
