JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:                    TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR

QUALIFICATIONS:

·          Must hold a valid CDL license 

·          Must successfully complete school bus driver training and be certified and licensed by the South Carolina Department of Education

·          Must have a good driving record (No more than 4 points against the license.) 

·          Must pass Physical Performance Test, drug test and criminal background checks

REPORTS TO:     Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Superintendent

SUPERVISES:     If applicable, as designated by Board, Superintendent, or School Administrator

FUNCTION:          Responsible for the organization, administration, and supervision in the area of the school district transportation system in accordance with state law and policies along with school district policies

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

·          Organizes and implements a student transportation system within the policies of the Board of Education

·          Prepares bus routes and schedules for all public schools in the district

·          Recruits, interviews, trains, checks background and recommends for employment, transfer, promotion and release of all transportation personnel

·          Prepares and administers the transportation budget with the Finance Department

·          Authorizes purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district needs

·          Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventative safety

·          Cooperates with school administrators and others responsible for planning special school trips

·          Takes an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses

·          Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based a survey of residents distances and grade levels

·          Acts as a liaison with parents for complaints and special requests

·          Completes and dispatches accident reports

·          Submits all required reports to state authorities

·          Advises superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather

·          Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings

·          Outdoor environment with moderate exposure to environmental/weather conditions

·          Physical demands are restricted to occasional work requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds

·          Requires the ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines

·          Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:             240 days
