Location: Willie Jeffries School of Excellence, Mevers School of Excellence, Berkeley
Preparatory Academy


Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt


Reports To: Principal


Position Overview:
The Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student behavior, promoting a positive school
culture, and ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment. This role involves
implementing disciplinary policies, supporting student development programs, and collaborating
with staff and families.


Key Responsibilities:
● Develop and enforce school-wide behavior expectations and policies.
● Address student disciplinary issues promptly and fairly.
● Implement programs that promote positive student behavior and character development.
● Collaborate with teachers and staff to support at-risk students.
● Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student behavior and progress.
● Monitor and analyze student behavior data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
● Coordinate with school counselors and support staff to provide necessary interventions.
● Assist in the development of school policies related to student conduct.
● Any other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
● Valid South Carolina teaching certification.
● Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience preferred.
● Strong understanding of student behavior management strategies.
● Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.


Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate
effectively; sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The
employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move
up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with
disabilities to perform the essential functions.


Work Environment
This position operates in a professional school environment. The role routinely uses standard
office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and instructional
materials. Noise level is typically moderate, but can be higher during student-centered activities
or events. Occasional local travel for school-related functions may be required.


FLSA Classification
This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is in
accordance with applicable federal and South Carolina labor laws.
