TITLE: Special Education Instructional Coach
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. S.C. certification in in Special Education: Emotional Disabilities (PK–Grade 12), Special Education: Intellectual Disabilities (PK–Grade 12), Special Education: Learning Disabilities (PK–Grade 12), Special Education: Multi-categorical (PK–Grade 12), and/or Special Education: Severe Disabilities (PK–Grade 12).
2. A bachelor’s degree and/or a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education.
3. Have taught in a special education classroom for at least 3 years.
4. Have in-depth knowledge of reading processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction.
5. Have the experience or preparation that enables him or her to model, observe, and provide feedback about special education instruction for classroom teachers.
REPORTS TO: Chief Accountability Officer
JOB GOAL: To successfully provide on-going and consistent support for the implementation and instructional components of special education instruction, leadership, and professional development.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works with the Chief Accountability Officer, Special Education Coordinator, and school leadership to ensure IDEA and 504 compliance for the district.
2. Model effective instructional strategies for teachers.
3. Facilitates study groups/team meetings.
4. Trains teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction.
5. Coaches and mentors colleagues.
6. Provides daily support to classroom teachers.
7. Works with teachers to ensure that research-based programs are implemented with fidelity.
8. Helps lead and support Special Education Leadership in his or her district.
9. Continues to increase his or her knowledge base in the best practices in instruction, intervention, and instructional reading strategies.
10. Works with all teachers (including special education, content area, and elective areas) in the schools he or she serves, prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the greatest impact on student achievement, namely coaching and mentoring in classroom.
11. Works with students in whole and small group instruction to supplement classroom learning.
12. Helps to increase instructional density to meet the needs of all students.
13. Participates and conducts professional development sessions at the school and district level.
14. Participates as an integral member of the school’s intervention or other at-risk teams.
15. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Nine-month year. Salary and work schedule to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.
