Teacher Job Description
Contract Length: 195 days per year

At SCVCS, a South Carolina certified teacher is responsible for delivering curriculum content in an online synchronous and asynchronous environment, providing instruction, support, and guidance to parents and students, monitoring students' individual learning needs, and actively collaborating with families to advance each student’s education.
As part of the regular teaching responsibilities, teachers are expected to fulfill duties in the following areas:
PLANNING AND PREPARATION:
● Learn the course curriculum in its entirety for assigned grade levels/subject areas
● Demonstrate knowledge of SC state standards and how it aligns with the SCVCS curriculum and core values
● Understand overall diversity of assigned families and individual characteristics of students/parents and how this impacts the support that is needed
● Utilize asynchronous and synchronous tools to augment course content according to prescribed policies and procedures
INSTRUCTION AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
● Orient students to course requirements and individualize instruction to help students achieve curricular objectives
● Balance flexibility of the curriculum with SCVCS policies and procedures
● Maintain regular office hours and conduct instructional sessions
● Communicate high expectations and show an active interest in student's achievement
● Set and enforce deadlines for student assignments
● Grade student work timely and maintain grade book
● Report on student academic progress and attendance
● Maintain regular contact with students and families and support parents with student curricular and instructional issues and rewards
● Alert administrators of any concerns regarding student performance and progress and recommend student promotion and retention
VIRTUAL CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT:
● Create and manage a professional home office and background for online teaching
● Establish and maintain a positive rapport with assigned families
● Support students with set-up and maintenance of learning environment and through basic computer troubleshooting
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Collaborate with peers
● Build community by contributing to school message boards, newsletter, and events
● Travel to and participate in required staff meetings and professional development sessions and attend all social outings
● Organize and attend social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of one virtual club

QUALIFICATIONS:
● Minimum of 5 years public school teaching experience
● Required valid South Carolina area certification in subject/grade being taught
● Required ability to travel within and between assigned geographic areas to support students, participate in regularly scheduled meetings, and school activities
● Virtual teaching experience preferred
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Google, Zoom
● Strong communication and time management skills
