FELTON LABORATORY CHARTER SCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION FOR STAFF DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR K – 8.

CONTRACT YEAR:  240 Days – Year-Round Schedule

SALARY: Commensurate with Experience / Education

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: An earned Master’s Degree or above in Educational Leadership from an accredited institution. Hold or be eligible for a valid South Carolina Elementary Principal Certification.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years of successful, full-time teaching experience required. Minimum of five years of professional related experience as a school based or district-based administrator.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a strong commitment to continuous learning. Have strong written and oral communication skills. Possess a sense of humor and be committed to the vision, mission, and values of the school.

DIRECT ACCOUNTABILITY: Charter School Director

SUPERVISION: Oversee all instructional and in-service personnel assigned to the school.

GOAL: To provide the leadership and management necessary to administer and supervise all programs, policies, and activities of the school to ensure high quality educational experiences and services to the students in a safe enriching environment.

ACCOUNTABILITY PROCEDURES:
The Director will assess and inform the Charter School Board of Directors of the effectiveness of the Staff Development/Assistant Director annually with respect to the performance of specific responsibilities and in accordance to state and school board policies.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of the Staff Development Coordinator/Assistant Director include but are not limited to the following:

1. Student Performance

  • Set and enforce rigorous standards for student achievement that are aligned with State and Federal Accountability targets, as well as the goals of Felton Laboratory Charter School.
  • Ensure the academic program meets or exceeds yearly student outcome goals as defined by State and Federal Accountability targets, and Felton Laboratory Charter School’s vision, mission and strategic plan.

2. Organizational Leadership

  • Develop organizational goals and objectives consistent with the mission, vision and values of Felton Laboratory Charter School.
  • Maintain active involvement in the school planning process by providing resources for sound decision-making to the Director.
  • Lead the instructional staff in developing a healthy school culture through appropriate staff development and training.
  • Create a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration among the staff, teachers, students, and parents.
  • Foster a school climate that supports student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students, staff, and parents.
  • Oversee all programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal funding sources.
  • Manage student enrollment according to the charter school state law.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety and security of all students, staff, visitors, university students, and property.
  • Assist in ensuring an orderly learning environment.
  • Ensure appropriate standards for student behavior, academic performance, and attendance.
  • Ensure that all disciplinary issues are addressed fairly and immediately.

3. Instructional Leadership

  • Work with the instructional staff to ensure the proper training on the adopted instructional practices and research-based methods.
  • Manage, evaluate and develop the team concept among teachers and staff.
  • Work with teachers and staff to constantly assess and improve student achievement results.
  • Ensure the use of effective, research-based teaching methodologies and practices.
  • Implement data-driven instructional practices.
  • Work with teachers to improve their teaching practice through professional development, modeling, and collaborative planning.
  • Keep abreast of successful instructional methodologies and practices.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism among teachers and staff.
  • Monitor progress of all students.
  • Supervise and mentor all teachers.

4. Operational Leadership

  • Oversee routine facilities maintenance and food service operations.
  • Ensure compliance of local, state, and federal laws and regulations in regard to instruction.

5. Personnel

  • Assist in recruiting, selecting, and hiring school staff, including teachers and school-based support staff.
  • Assist in ensuring legal hiring and termination procedures in compliance with state guidelines.
  • Assist the Director in overseeing all disciplinary actions.
  • Assist with the provision for adequate supervision, training, and evaluation of all staff and volunteers.

6. Community Relations

  • Serve as a liaison between teachers, parents, and the community.
  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism in all elements of this position.
  • Develop and maintain positive school/community relations by promoting/ marketing the school and its priorities to the community
