Under general supervision the elementary music teacher is responsible for instructing students in the field of music and creating a safe and orderly learning environment. Reports directly to the Principal.
● Successfully demonstrates the ability to intentionally plan, implement, and evaluate standards-based instructional lesson plans designed to ensure student mastery of the appropriate grade-level skills and content
● Instructs students in developing knowledge and skills in accordance with the course of study adopted by the Board of Education
● Enables students to develop an appreciation of music
● Demonstrates techniques to students in music concepts
● Ability to leverage current technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness of school operations and student performance
● Develops clear and concise instructional lesson plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of preparation, instruction, and rehearsal time
● Provides individual and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities
● Uses a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students
● Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances
● Arranges opportunities for students to present musical performances both during and after school hours.
● Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for the school and community
● Instructs students in the proper care and use of equipment
● Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss, abuse, injury, or security breech
● Maintains an organized and workable inventory of all music and equipment related to the program
● Makes minor adjustments to musical equipment and requests repairs as appropriate
● Evaluates student performance and growth in knowledge and understandings and prepares regular progress reports
● Conferences regularly with parents/guardians regarding behavior observations and the performance of students
● Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
● Maintains thorough records for each student
● Selects, requisitions, and maintains books, instructional materials, and instructional aids
● Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
● Assists the administrative team in providing an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching
● Is punctual and maintains regular attendance
● Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities
● Maintains a clean and orderly work environment
● Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
● Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the "chain of command" as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures
● Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, two-way radio, telephone, calculator, etc.
● Presents a positive image of GCA at all times
● Willingly performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal

● SC K-12 Certification in Music Education
● Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position
● Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities that stimulate learning
● Knowledge of the records, forms, and reports that must be prepared and maintained
● Knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities
● Knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and adjustment problems
● Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities
● Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration, and/or supervised practice
● Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations
● Ability to prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials for classroom activities
● Ability to identify student adjustments and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents
● Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, all staff members, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job
● Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities
● Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions.
● Requires ability to work under a degree of stress-related duties that require constant attention and working with students.
● Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 50 pounds.
● Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required.
● Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
