Physical Education Specialists help children develop physical abilities and healthy habits that can last for the rest of their lives. Physical Education Specialists are responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship between healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability. Physical Education Specialists must possess a repertoire of instructional skills to create an atmosphere that inspires learning and target instruction to support students in progressing toward key learning outcomes. Responsibilities include creating a flexible elementary classroom that promotes learning and personal growth, motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge as well as developing understandings; and collaborating with learning support teachers and other specialists to plan integrated units and activities, discuss student learning, analyze and moderate student work, and to promote the educational needs of students.
