Individuals are required to have core knowledge of Special Education practices, laws, and accountability measures to support students to have the least restrictive environment. Exceptional Students Educators specialize in handling and teaching young learners as they prepare for elementary grades and ensure compliance with Special Education Regulations (State and Federal). Communicates effectively with scholars, parents/guardians, and staff. Assist in driving a culture of academic excellence and high levels of student achievement at Fine Arts Preparatory School. Educators must possess a repertoire of instructional skills to create an atmosphere that inspires learning and target instruction to support students in progressing toward key learning outcomes. Responsibilities include creating a flexible elementary classroom that promotes learning and personal growth; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge as well as developing understandings; and collaborating with learning support teachers and other specialists to plan integrated units and activities, discuss student learning, analyze and moderate student work, and to promote the educational needs of students. Exceptional Students Educators will have a strong understanding of best practices, particularly in literacy and numeracy instruction, and be familiar with using a workshop approach. The absolute focus of educators employed by Fine Arts Preparatory School is on teaching and learning. Innovative and experiential lessons and a loving and nurturing personality are expected. We believe that every student is gifted and will treat each as such. Some evening and weekend duties may be required.
Research, plan, model, and deliver appropriately paced student-centered learning experiences.
Create innovative strategies to deliver content while providing a safe, nourishing, and enriching environment for students.
Deliver multi-disciplinary Liberal Arts lessons to students.
Monitor compliance of documentation and legally mandated services for students with IEPs, 504 plans, ESL, and Gifted programs.
Establish and maintain relationships with school personnel to support special populations.
Collaboratively plan with content area and grade level team weekly.
Utilize technology to drive student engagement and achievement.
Connect instruction with the innovations set in the Fine Arts Preparatory School charter(Arts Infusion, NaturePlay, and Experiential Education).
Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the assigned content area(s) and any related standards.
Provide valid and reliable data as it relates to student achievement and growth.
Explore the gifted nature and needs of each student using self-paced classroom research, classroom projects, and research-based principles necessary to the success of Gifted & Talented students.
Provide a content-rich environment, which promotes environmental sensory for students.
Communicate with parents/guardians on a regular basis maintaining ongoing communication with them regarding student activities, and development.
Assist the school with developing programs for special populations.
Provide direct services hours to students if needed.
Monitor consistency and quality of all special populations programming through walkthroughs, observations, data digs, and one-on-one's.
Facilitate professional development for leaders and teachers regarding compliance, instructional support, and best practices.
Provide a classroom environment, which encourages parent participation.
Ensure positive child guidance techniques by re-directing the child with patience and respect.
Help students understand and use basic concepts and skills, to demonstrate responsible emotional and cognitive behaviors.
Support teachers with the lesson internalization process through modeling and coaching
Assist school personnel with resolving parent complaints regarding services for special populations
Support teachers in developing instructional appropriate IEPs, ILPs, and 504 plans through professional development, office hours, and practice clinics.
Demonstrate patience and poise in the classroom.
Monitor compliance of 504, ILP, and IEP hard files for compliance throughout the school year.
Utilize creative teaching methods that engage student participation and increase overall learning success. Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and the safety and security of children.
Positively collaborate and support paraprofessionals and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards.
Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
Remain centered on the school's mission and vision.
Performs additional duties as may be assigned by the direct Supervisor and other school administrators.
Fine Arts Preparatory School is an arts-infused public charter school located in the heart of the piedmont of South Carolina. Starting in Kindergarten, the school allows matriculation through high school, offering programming that leads to a South Carolina high school diploma.
