Duties: Provide individual and group instruction designed to increase skills of students with visual impairments in Braille, use of residual vision, adaption of materials, daily living skills, etc., based on specified IEP goals and campus program needs. Provide training staff to encourage consistent support for students' achievement. Collaborates with school/agency staff to schedule visits and provide O & M therapy designed to increase specific skill. Consult with parents, medical staff, teachers, and other professionals regarding needs of students. Consults with administrators and grounds facilities staff to make recommendations regarding the most appropriate campus design to promote independence for students who are blind or visually impaired. Evaluate orientation and mobility skills and related specific needs of identified students.
Qualifications: A minimum of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Completion of a CAEP approved training program or eligible for South Carolina certification through the State Department of Education's approved alternative certification routes. Valid South Carolina certification (or is eligible to obtain a South Carolina certificate). Current ACVREP certification required. Minimum of two years' experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired.
