Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the director of special services the Positive Behavior Intervention Specialist (PBIS) will be responsible for the overall management of the Positive Behavior interventions and support program including providing training and technical assistance to school teams.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in mental health, psychology, or a related field.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of research related to PBIS at all 3 tiers universal, secondary and tertiary.
  • Experience and direct contact with patients and individuals with special needs.
  • Strong working knowledge of behavioral theory and applied behavior analysis.
  • Understanding of the characteristics and behaviors associated with disorders.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle intense emotional situations.
  • Ability to apply behavioral principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent stress management skills.
  • Experience in administering Functional Behavior Assessments and developing Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Experience planning and conducting professional development training
  • Demonstrated leadership and project organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate parent meetings/training sessions
  • Experience in data base decision making
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff)

Skills/Effort:
Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice.  Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations.  Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities. Ability to prepare lesson plans, tests, and instructional materials for classroom activities.  Ability to identify student adjustment and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend appropriate remedial action to parents.  Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents, District staff, and all other groups involved in the activities of the job.
 
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a variety of locations including office and school environments. Involves sitting, walking, and use of computers, office equipment and driving personal vehicle. May require attendance at some evening meetings.
 
Responsibility:
Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget. Supervises students in classroom. Supervises instructional aides and volunteers as assigned.
