Duties: Provides instruction in accordance with the IEP and state standards; monitors individual student progress and adapts teaching materials, methods and techniques as appropriate; teaches students to use a variety of adaptive devices. Plans and prepares an Individual Education Plan (IEP) of instruction for the assigned students. Plans and carries out a classroom management program in the classroom; advises students of acceptable behavior and corrects unacceptable behavior; makes referrals if necessary. Meets with parents at IEP conferences and other occasions to discuss student needs, programming and progress; communicates with parents regularly.
Qualifications: Must have a SC Teacher Licensure in Middle Level ELA and/or High School Level ELA and Licensure in Deaf Education. Must have the ability to plan IEP's and carry out educational programming to meet student's needs. Must be familiar with the implementation of an academic program for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in accordance with established curriculum standards as specified by the SC Department of Education. Must also have the ability to establish positive working relationships with teachers, students, parents, staff members, administrators and related services personnel; must be able to communicate effectively with deaf students and staff. Position may require specific communication modalities.
