The mission of the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina is to strengthen public education for South Carolina students by supporting and advocating for high quality public charter schools.  

We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization with membership open to public charters schools and public charter school supporters including families, community leaders, and business leaders. Since our inception in 2001, a dedicated group of staff members, volunteers, and member schools have worked for significant legislative change to benefit South Carolina's charter public schools and to develop resources and supports for South Carolina's charter schools.

Overview of Position: Opportunity to be an innovative PLTW Gateway and STEM middle school teacher at CSSMS who engages scholars and advances of the mission of CCSMS. Spark interest in STEM careers while fostering 21 st century skills like critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration through the PLTW Gateway curriculums along with other platforms. Create and implement meaningful opportunities and field experiences for scholars. Primary Responsibility: Engaging scholars in PLTW Gateway Courses at CCSMS while ensuring scholars acquire the course level objectives set forth in the PLTW Curriculum. Essential Job Functions: ▪ Participate in training as offered throughout the year (and possibly in the summer). ▪ Prepares course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of PLTW and CCSMS. ▪ Implement the PLTW curriculum and monitor individual student progress through formal and informal assessments. ▪ Spark interest in STEM while fostering 21 st century skills like critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration. ▪ Ensure our program is meeting district and state CTE objectives. ▪ Represent CCSMS at district, state, and national meetings related to our program or other related activities. ▪ Maintain and inventory the resources to support the CCSMS maker spaces. ▪ Assist with grant applications and related reporting. ▪ Establish a respectful and effective classroom environment that is conducive to learning by setting clear expectations for behavior and maintaining discipline in classroom. ▪ Communicate effectively with scholars, peers, families, and administrative staff. ▪ Develop community and business partners to support classroom objectives. ▪ Collaborate with other staff to develop and implement year-long STEMester projects, family events, and community outreach opportunities. ▪ Enter data and meet deadlines for attendance, grades, and other requirements of PLTW, the State, the district, and CCSMS. ▪ Enthusiastically taking on other duties as assigned and proactively pitching in wherever needed to make each day run smoothly and safely. Education, Experience, and Skills: ▪ Skilled at developing, motivating, and directing teenagers and collaborating with peers. ▪ A four-year degree or master’s degree in a STEM related field. ▪ A SC teaching certificate is preferred, but not required is the candidate can meet other requirements. The candidate may seek alternative accreditation pathways. ▪ Former PLTW training and teaching experience is preferred. ▪ Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. ▪ Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out the functions of the teaching position. ▪ To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and experience with word processing software; spreadsheet software; and design software as required through PLTW.
