Job Title: History Teacher Reports to (Title): Principal Terms of Employment:  Certified Salary Scale Hours per day: 8 Days per year: 190 Type of position: Full-time FLSA Status: Exempt Curriculum and Course Competencies Instructors use the SCDE Social Studies curriculum and competencies for high school students.   Courses needed are US History, Government and Economics. ​ Minimum Qualifications High school Social Studies certificate. General Summary: Under general supervision facilitates classroom instruction for all courses assigned.  Assists in other school and district programs as assigned. Essential Functions: Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Gray Collegiate Academy. Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, colleagues and other stakeholders to foster student learning. Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive learning environment for all students; supervises student activities on the playground, in the lunchroom, in arrival and dismissal locations and other areas as assigned; maintains positive behavior support and classroom management systems. Teaches concepts and skills to students who have assigned to dual enrollment courses.  Instructs students in subject specific content to include additional support services when necessary. Designs and facilitates engaging lesson plans and classroom activities; organizes classrooms for daily instruction.   Employs a variety of 21st century instructional methods and techniques consistent with the needs, capabilities, learning levels, and physical limitations of the students. Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; analyzes assessment data in relation to student learning and develops instructional strategies to best meet student needs. Creates assessments directly connected to curriculum through rubrics and additional provisions to ensure students gain an enduring understanding of the content necessary to progress to the next level coursework. Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, discipline reports, etc. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development. Meets with teachers, parents, administrators, related services personnel, and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students’ progress; suggests interventions as appropriate. Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Education/Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree in History or related area preferably with previous teaching experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid South Carolina driver’s license Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of content standards and benchmarks that impact the position.  Knowledge of and ability to implement methods for developing lesson plans and materials and classroom activities which stimulate learning and provide for personalization. Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation and utilization of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities. Knowledge of and ability to implement 21st century instructional methods and techniques used in teaching.  Knowledge of and ability to implement counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and functional/behavioral problems.     Knowledge of appropriate interventions to recommend as needed. Knowledge of student services available and referral procedures. Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations; ability to handle outbursts, tantrums and other behavioral problems as needed. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job. Working Conditions: Conducts duties in a classroom or office environment with no significant exposure to environmental factors. Physical demands are most often restricted to classroom work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds.  Occasional local and overnight travel may be required. Job requires the operation of general office technology. Responsibility: Supervises students in classrooms and other situations. Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
