Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, performs a variety of administrative tasks in coordinating the successful implementation of the Special Education program while providing support to school administrators, faculty, and staff. This is a 240-day position. Reports to Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and coordinates the implementation of the Special Education and 504 program including professional development
  • Serves as the LEA for all Special Education and 504 meetings.
  • Develops the Special Education and 504 policies for the school in coordination with the sponsor
  • Observes classroom environment and makes recommendations for improvement in instruction and classroom management as appropriate
  • Assists in the preparation of the master class schedule
  • Gathers and analyzes data on student achievement for progress monitoring for all students on an IEP.
  • Coordinates departmental and other Special Education meetings
  • Ensures all Special Education teachers and paraprofessionals are properly certified and trained
  • Coordinates and leads all IEP and 504 meetings including reevaluations
  • Ensures notification of Child Find is properly distributed each year
  • Coordinates with School Psychologists, OT/PTs for services
  • Assists the Executive Director in the selection, training/orienting, and supervision of certified staff, and assists in the evaluation of staff performance
  • Meets with teachers, staff and parents to discuss the implementation of the Special Education program goals
  • Coordinates and provides related professional development opportunities for classroom teachers
  • Keeps parents, administrators and community citizens informed about the school’s Special Education and 504 programs
  • Assists with developing the annual budget
  • Participates in various professional and community organizations; attends various workshops, seminars and conferences to continuously update professional knowledge in services for students with learning disabilities
  • Develops and maintains a network of contacts to assist in the implementation of the school’s disability programs 


GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist the administrative team in providing an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching
  • Is punctual and maintains regular attendance
  • Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
  • Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the "chain of command" as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, typewriter, two-way radio, telephone, calculator, etc
  • Presents a positive image of PACE Academy at all times
  • Willingly performs other related duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Master's degree or higher with three to five years of experience as a classroom teacher, or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess ability to teach and communicate at an age-appropriate level for grade school children. Must possess, or be working towards, a valid S.C. teaching credential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the methods, policies, procedures and activities of PACE Academy which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Knowledge in the development, planning, organization, implementation and management of instructional programs and practices designed to meet educational objectives and requirements
  • Knows how to keep abreast of changes in policy, standards, procedures, and regulations pertinent to the school and in keeping with best practices in general
  • Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained

Skills/Effort

  • Ability to instruct others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice, and/or make recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines
  • Ability to complete, process, and maintain required records, reports, and other information
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communications with school and district employees, the Executive Director, and the general public
  • Ability to operate general office equipment in the performance of daily activities
  • Ability to effectively communicate activities of the job using the mechanics of standard English
  • Maintains an enthusiastic, self-reliant and self-starting approach to meeting job functions 
  • Strives to anticipate work to be accomplished and initiates proper and acceptable actions for the completion of work with a minimum of supervision and instruction
